Spotlight On - Lucy Scott

Our latest SPOTLIGHT ON features Lucy Scott (@lucyscottster), Editor at The Ned, Soho House’s new opening in the City of London. She has lived in London for the last 11 years, but is a Mancunian at heart, with a love of travelling, old-school pop music, and coffee and tequila - in equal measures! She lives in Tottenham with her husband Andy and their daughter Nina.

LUCY ON TIBA

‘No-one tells you once you have a kid, it’s impossible to leave the house without taking everything you own with you. My Tiba + Marl bag has seen me through countless days out, train trips around the UK to visit grandparents and all our family holidays. It has carried everything in it; from nappies, nipple balm and muslins when Nina was a newborn, through to endless snacks and toys now she’s a toddler. I love that it’s black and stylish and looks nothing like what you’d expect a changing bag to look like; I even use it to lug my laptop around in now I’m back at work. Also, the secret pouch inside makes for a handy bag when you’re finally ready for a big night out!’

Hackney City Farm

I love this place so much that we visit at least once a month. You’ll find it just off Colombia Road – so if you time it right on a Sunday you can treat yourself to a big bunch of flowers afterwards. The farm has been open for 20 years and it’s the sweetest thing to see farmyard animals in the middle of the city. This is where Nina first saw pigs, goats and chickens, and it never fails to entertain her for hours at a time.

Hackney Coffee Company

My favourite place to head for a coffee and cake after the farm. The staff are super friendly – and always have a free croissant for Nina – the coffee is strong, there’s a wall of books that you’re encouraged to delve into, and the whole space is covered in hanging plants – so it’s very Insta-worthy.

The Ned

My second home and the place you’ll find me four days a week. I’m so lucky to work in such a stunning building. If I’m ever having a stressful day, I’ll head up to the roof and take in the views of St Paul’s and the Shard. You can’t visit the building without being impressed at the sheer scale of it, and the Grand Banking Hall and the Nickel Stage are always buzzing. If you only have time to eat at one place, make it Kaia; the black cod is to die for.

Postal Museum

I know, bear with me, it sounds dull. But if you have a toddler let me introduce you to your new hangout. After its recent refurb, the museum now has an underground train you can ride on while learning all about the history of the Royal Mail. Afterwards, head to Sorted! - the museum’s indoor mini-town play area, with streets, buildings and trolleys so the kids can tire themselves out pretending to be post-men and women. You’re welcome.

Clissold Park

We live in London and sadly we don’t have a garden, which means whenever there’s a scrap of sunshine we make a break for it to Clissold Park. There’s a lido for the kids, an animal enclosure with deer and goats and a butterfly sanctuary. Plus, it’s just off Stoke Newington High Street, so there’s plenty of delicious options for lunch, or an afternoon vino. Café Boheme, Soho I was bereft when this Soho mainstay closed for renovations, but thankfully it’s back open and even better than before. It’s the perfect restaurant for literally any occasion; whether you want breakfast with your baby, an affordable brunch menu to enjoy with a mate, or a romantic candlelit dinner with a bottle of red and your love. Don’t leave without ordering a Boheme Spritz – it’s one of the reasons I keep going back!

MY TOP FIVE BEAUTY ITEMS

I use this nourishing, aromatic oil every other night. I warm up a few drops between my fingers and take three big deep inhales. It smells amazing and never fails to make me feel calm and ready for bed, plus it’s rich in vitamins and minerals to help your complexion. 

As much as I love natural products, I’m knackered a lot of the time and it’s starting to show on my face. Sometimes a gal needs a little acid in her products, and this is the one I turn to a couple of times a week. It tightens, brightens and stings a little on application, which makes me feel like it’s doing its job! 

Am not a fan of foundation, but also don’t have the confidence to leave the house without some coverage, and this tinted moisturiser covers bags and blemishes but doesn’t sink into your skin or look too heavy. 

Show me a mum that doesn’t have this in her beauty bag. I use it on everything, from chapped lips, to dry patches and have even used it to smooth flyaway hair.

If I was stranded on a desert island and could only have one product it would be this. My eyelashes are a lot fairer than I’d like, but this gives dark, even coverage and makes me look a little more human, even on just a couple of hours sleep.
